Six Random Things and Three Sentences

Catherine J. Gardner tagged me--twice, actually. So first, here's six random things about me:

1. I have a dog and two cats, named Jasper, Angel, and Vincent respectively, but their full names are Night Sea Crossing, The Archangel, and Saint Vincent.

2. One of my favorite books is Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief. It's embarrassing how often I reread it. I bought it at a library book sale five or six years ago--the scary thing is I almost didn't buy it, because the cover made me think it was probably an inspirational novel and maybe even self-published.

3. I love animation. Love it love it love it. The posters on my studio walls advertise: Akira, Gundam Wing, Gorillaz, Havey Birdman Attorney at Law, Cowboy Bebop, and Ratatouille.

4. I've worked as a temp on and off for many, many years, including five solid years in the mid-90s when I did nothing else. I can now walk into any office environment and take care of business immediately. A questionable skill.

5. My guilty pleasure is those cheesy police car chase documentaries on Tru TV. I especially like one I saw recently that gave driving tips like "always wear your seatbelt," because I could pretend I was watching for the important tips instead of being voyeuristic.

6. I have actually, truly, honestly lost track of how many novels I've written. I could probably figure it out, but I'd have to sit down and really think about it. All but the latest three were student works and largely unpublishable. The latest three are professional and I expect to snag publishers for them within the next two years.

The rules:
* Link the person who tagged you.
* Post the rules on your blog.
* Write six random things about yourself.
* Tag six people at the end of your blog by linking to their blog.
* Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.
* Let your tagger know when your entry is up.

(I'll put the tag list at the end.)

Now, rules for the second tag:

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people and post a comment back to Catherine J. Gardner's blog (she's the one who tagged me - you will in turn nominate the person who tagged you - ie me) once you've posted your three sentences.

The nearest book is Diana Wynne Jones's The Tough Guide to Fantasyland.

"MERCHANT FEUDALISTS are organized in clusters of little COUNTRIES, mostly along the coast, each ruled by a COUNCIL. These trade with one another and are among the few PEOPLES who seem to trade overseas as well. Spices, silks, and olives are mentioned by the Management here."

Okay, now here's my tag list:

Camille Alexa
Jackie Jernigan
J.M. McDermott
Kessepha

Cheers for playing along KC and good luck with your novels (I'm in pretty much the same boat).

I was so blogwriter's blocked today I almost did this.

Then, I got an e-mail from Mac and I realized I had to make an announcement instead.

Maybe tomorrow...

Kate!

I just realized I accidentally ignored your tag. I'm so sorry.

I figure it's too late to play the whole game, but here's a go at things (freestyle):

6 random things about me THIS MORNING--

1. I ate tofu hotdogs for breakfast. Two of them, with all the fixins. Mustard is yummy.

2. I received a phone call at about 8 am asking me if I would go to Vegas next weekend to help blow some inheritance money ($80k) with S and his friend J. I said yes.

3. I offered to go to someone's house this morning to help them take pictures of zombies and demons. She said she wants to make sure we get some 'high-class' zombies in there, too. Just because you shuffle and eat brainz doesn't mean you can do it in style.

4. I vacuumed my whole house before breakfast. No, this is not normal for me.

5. I have reacquainted myself with sugarcubes. They delight me with their squareness and cubosity.

6. I have, for the first time, just decided I officially have Too Many Books by the side of my bed.

SECOND TAG GAME:

nearest book is Desolate Places anthology (Hadley Rille books)

pg 123 is the last page of Gerri Leen's story, "Lucky Shot":

"She smiles. Once again, he has found a way to ensure their survival. She soaks the paper in her sink until it disintegrates -- there must be no record."

I liked this story, so I'm glad it fell there.

I'll link with an apology for my tardiness to your blog next time I post something.

Eek! I didn't even notice your reply! I had actually forgotten all about this.

Your random things are way more interesting than my random things. Except the tofu hotdogs, which are wrong on every level except the mustard. I would eat mustard on a bun, but not A) tofu or B) hotdogs or C) any combination of A & B.
