Now with double the Shaw awe

The TOC has been announced for Pill Hill Press's Leather, Denim & Silver anthology, in which I have a story. Thirty stories in that antho! Hot damn! I'm also not the only Shaw in the TOC, which is fine, because all us Shaws are awesome.

I'm still working hard on Bloodhound, which is already almost at 40,000 words. In most books, that would be around the halfway point. In this ridiculously long thing, it's more like a quarter of the way in. I'm going to have to rein in the details during the first editing pass.

I don't understand your aversion to high word counts. Bring it on! Speaking as one prospective reader, a 160k story is just like an 80k story, but with twice as much to enjoy.

I wish you'd start a publishing company, then. :) I've pared Bell-Men down to 117,000 words, which is long but not ridiculously so. Hopefully I can keep Bloodhound to about that length too.

117,000 words? That's what, somewhere around 350 pages? Sheesh. I glide right past those in the bookstore, unless there's a similar book next to it that whispers "sequel" to me. :( Give us the words, you know we want them.

Is there publisher push-back for novels beyond 150k or something?

A woman of many words? Keep hitting those keys.

Best wishes and well done

Richard--Publishers flinch and start laughing unkindly at new authors who try to interest them in books over 100k or so. The exception would probably be epic fantasy or historical fiction. 117k is probably closer to 400 pages. But hey, I've planned this to be a trilogy! Two more books!

Jarmara--Thanks! *types faster*

Congrats on the antho--and write the story with as much wordage as you need. ;)

Over-wordiness can be fixed in revisions. :)

Most excellent! Congrats.

Congratulations, Kate. And I notice you're 'Kate' in the TOC rather than KC.

Danielle--Thanks!

Cate--It's going to be fixed in the actual TOC. I still go by K.C. Shaw as my byline.
