Your Amazon order has shipped...

...you are now broke.

I've ordered five books this time:
Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston (that's the one I'm really excited about--I keep hearing good reviews of it)
The Princes of the Golden Cage by Nathalie Mallet
Dragonhaven by Robin McKinley
Storm Born by Richelle Mead
The Accidental Demon Slayer
by Angie Fox

Now, about this name Angie Fox. Pseudonym or real name, what do you think? I say pseudonym, but then she probably is saddled with the real name of Angie Fordalinni or something like that, plus I'm fond of messing with my own name so I don't blame anyone else for doing it too. But Aaron Polson suggested I try and sell Weaver's Shroud under a pseudonym since it's so different from my current style. And making up pseudonyms is fun!

Anyway, the alternative is spending the rest of my lunch break eating inadequate chili and reading other people's internets.

I had a pseudonym for about a day a year or so ago. I'd love to change my byline. Catherine J Gardner sounds too pompus.

It's not pompous, it's elegant! But then I'm a little biased for the name Catherine/Katherine. :)

You could always shorten it to C.J. Gardner and not throw your readers off too much.

At one point I'd picked the name Robin Rhys as a pseudonym, although I'm not sure why and I'm not sure I still like it.

I think it's the J that makes it pompus but without it my name is rather plain. I thought about C.J. Gardner but hated it more than my current and I toyed with Cate Gardner but there's already a novelist called Katy Gardner.

My pseudonym was Phoenix Rendell. Phoenix in honour of one of my novels and Rendell is a family name.

Phoenix Rendell is actually a cool name--very memorable. Or maybe you could just use Cate Rendell or Catherine Rendell?

I started off publishing under Katherine Shaw, but it's a really common name. I think there's a Catherine Shaw who writes romances out there too--seems like she came up under Google when I was trying to decide what my byline should be.

I have a hard time leaving Shaw behind for any reason, though. I've actually changed my last name legally twice, second time to Shaw (first time *shudder* was Dazazel, which I made up), and I love it. It's also an old family name so I feel connected to it in a much deeper way, oddly, than my original last name. Which I will not reveal because I hate it so.

I always get mistaken for a woman because my given name really is Jamie. It throws people. I would probably write under the pseudonym J.C. Ruse (family name) if I had to.

Catherine J Gardner said...

In the UK Jamie is a boys name - I have a nephew called Jamie.

K.C. Shaw said...

All the Jamies I've ever known are boys. But it is more common as a girl's name these days.

If i was going to have a psuedonym, I'd probably pike something like Spike Richter.

Read Maximum Threshold by Spike Richter!!!

Which is why I can never have a psuedonym. I'd poke too much fun atr myself.

word verification: goish.

K.C. Shaw said...

Oh, and J.C. Ruse is a good pseudony, I think.

K.C. Shaw said...

Pseudonym, even.

K.C. Shaw said...

Spike Richter! Best name ever!

Half the fun of pseudonyms is picking silly ones.

It is one of those days isn't it (2 rejections now)

I think Angie Fox is the real deal. (name that is)

One of my wife's friends went to school with her, and we were just talking about The Accidental Demon Slayer last night...funny.

Jamie--ouch! Hey, third time's the charm!

Aaron--I'm really looking forward to reading that book. The title is great. I guess some people just have cool names.

I toyed with the idea of going by the name of Hugh Jass, but only for a moment or two.

K.C. Shaw said...

No one would ever forget it, at least. :)

The worst thing is I already have three more books in my cart for the next order. Come on, payday!

Now I know why my ears were burning yesterday. :)

The name is real. And my brother is Michael Fox (named before Michael J. Fox was so popular in the 80's). It used to drive Mike crazy because, you know, everyone had to make a comment.

Angie Fox said...

Oh and thanks for grabbing a copy of the book. The Accidental Demon Slayer was a kick to write. Hope you enjoy it!

Catherine J Gardner said...

Is he as cute? ;)

K.C. Shaw said...

Ha, I'll read your book first then! The title made me put it in the cart, that and I remembered seeing a good review somewhere. Thanks for dropping by and clearing up the name question. :)

Angie Fox said...

LOL Catherine. I think Mike is pretty cute. I could go into detail, but he's my brother so that's just ick.

And thanks, K.C. - that title got me my agent. She was going through her e-queries and thought it was funny. Whew!
