That odd paradox

If I didn't have to work, I'd be able to spend all day writing, right? Except that on days when I'm off work, I usually actually spend less time writing than on days when I do have to work. And that's one of the reasons why I'll probably never quit my day job*.

I haven't typed up what I wrote longhand today, but I probably cleared 1,000 words on my Bell-Man rewrites. I'm about to link to a scene that's already written, which encourages me. Of course, then I have to rewrite the entire climax of the book from scratch, and I'm not sure what precisely I want to happen. I just know I want it to happen a lot better than it happened the first time around.

*Other reasons include health insurance, steady paychecks, and the fact that no one's paying me all that much money for my writing.

time management is one of my downfalls as a writer. That, and I'm not that good yet.

Me too, unfortunately.

I won't quit my job for the same reasons. I don't know how it happens. Maybe "time crunch" is a motivator.

I think so. I know on days when I don't have anything else to do, I keep thinking, "Oh, I've got lots of time to write," and then suddenly it's 11pm.

I'm off work this week and accomplishing nothing, go figure.

See? I was right!

With a free day, the options become dizzying don't they? I find I have to sit down and think about them for a long, long time ; )

LOL! I wrote two endings to my Nanowrimo novel. I had to. Xander was taking the story over from Zane, and he demanded that the ending be all about him, too. Thankfully, when I took the original ending away, my novel was still up over 59K. :)

And it'll be longer still, because I've still got material I want to add.

Then comes the sequel... ;)

Natalie--I'm the same way, especially if I can consider my options while playing video games.

LMEighmy--Thank goodness for sequels. Sometimes I just can't leave my characters after THE END rolls around. :)

I totally agree. I've got two weeks off over Christmas/New Year and I bet I get bugger all done writing wise. Of course I could plan ahead and ensure that it doesn't happen, but where's the fun in that.

I've got two weeks off for Christmas too. I'm going to try and write a few short stories--but there's no guarantee. All those empty hours, so many distractions.

Isn't it funny that the more free time we have, the less writing we get done? I'm so glad I'm not the only person who does that.

Yup, today for instance. I had the day off work and wrote exactly zero words. Tomorrow I work and I bet I get a decent amount of writing done at lunch.
