More books! More words!

I got my Powell's book order today: Wild Hunt by Margaret Ronald (published by Eos, and a sequel to her Spiral Hunt, which I quite liked), Year of the Horse by Justin Allen (published by Overlook, a small publisher), and Extraordinary Animals Revisited by Karl P.N. Shuker (published by CFZ Press, a small publisher). I honestly do not know which one I want to read first. All of them!

I've also been writing up a storm today. I haven't typed up everything I wrote longhand during the day--that's what I'm about to do as soon as I hit "publish" here--but I suspect I've cracked the 10,000 word mark. My goal for Sunday night is 15,000 words. That'll bring me more than a quarter of the way into the book.

Of course, I'm starting to worry I'm going to run out of plot. I always worry I'm going to run out of plot, but this is a romance--there's not a whole heckuva lot of plot to start with. I'll have to think up yet more obstacles in the way of true love.

Ah, young love. Or old love: I'm not sure what age your characters are ; )

He's 32, she's 25. It's not terribly realistic, actually, since when I was 25 I thought my 31-year-old friend was ANCIENT, but it's fiction, what can I say?

Plot, smot. Throw in a good car chase with monkeys and an inevitable hospital stay and you've got it made.

Love over comes everything, so you have a lot of choice of what to throw at them.

Good luck with your writing

Jamie--Oh, man, now I'm going to have a lot of trouble keeping myself from including a car chase with monkeys. Next book!

Jarmara--These two poor lovebirds are going to be exhausted by the end of the book from what I'm going to put them through. They'll just have to collapse into each other's arms. :)

Do you need a plot for a romance book? ;)

Boy likes girl / girl hates boy / boy pretends to hate girl / girl decides she likes boy / both die in a freakish accident.

I love getting packages in the mail...especially when they contain books or art supplies!

Happy writing...and plotting. :)

I'm with Cate. A romance book needs a plot? Just kidding, of course. Good luck thwarting the lovers.

Cate--The ending might need a little work. :)

LMEighmy--Mmmm, art supplies! Almost as awesome as books!

Aaron--Well, a romance book needs a plot sort of like a tree needs a trunk. The leaves and branches are the interesting parts, but you have to hang them on something.

Go word count!

I hope something suitably conflicting (does that sound right) jumps in their way.

No word count this weekend--I've managed to waste every minute. If I didn't have a day job to keep me structured, I'd never write anything.

I suggest mutant shark attacks. Nothing like a few mutant sharks to derail a love story. ;)

It might just derail the entire story, though, because frankly mutant sharks are way more interesting than a couple of whiny lovebirds.
