I got home from DragonCon tonight around 4:30pm. It seemed to take me a lot less time to drive home than it did to drive there, probably because I spent the drive home in a near-fugue state from exhaustion. Fortunately traffic was light. I occupied my brain by plotting out a new story I've been thinking about (because I don't have enough book ideas stacked up waiting for time to write them). I think it'll be fun to write.
I didn't get any writing done while I was gone, but I had a great time. Just being in the middle of so many intelligent, well-read, interesting people was exciting. It gave me the same mental fizz that the start of the new semester always does at work (I work at a college, incidentally).
Next time I go to DragonCon, I'd like to stay in one of the convention hotels. Also, I'd like a million dollars and a pony.
Oh, and I discovered something about myself that I never realized before this weekend: I find guys in kilts totally hawt. Who knew?

Guys in kilts? Lol, though I did see one at a Hibernian Festival once who looked a lot like George Clooney.
I work at a college, too. It is a great time of year.
You must fly to Scotland... I'm sure I can arrange a few men in kilts for you, I have connections.
Ha! My dad wore a kilt to our wedding (a rental, of course, as it was the first and only time). I heard an 80 year old woman say, "If I was 30 years younger..."
guys in kilts? hmm... as long as they're actually scottish i can see how its hot. if they're just you know, some americans who got a little confused, i don't know...
Anne--It's not like I haven't seen guys in kilts before. It just never, you know, attracted me until this weekend. Maybe it's something in the granola bars I was eating the whole trip.
Cate--Rrrowl. Real kilts are even better than fake con kilts. :)
Alan--lol, I want to be like that when I'm 80!
Horror Girl--I think it was sort of a tipping point thing for me this weekend. There were lots of guys in kilts, and at some point I realized I was thinking, "Mmm, nice legs" (or words to that effect) when I noticed them. Maybe it'll taper off a little now that I'm not surrounded by guys in kilts, like you stop getting breakouts if you don't stand in the poison ivy patch. Or maybe it'll just get worse.
Sound like you had a fun time... Have a look at where I shall be going in October. I shall, of course, photograph anyone wearing a kilts for you ;-)
Shoot me, but I'm not a fan of guys in kilts. I just don't get it. Although maybe if Johnny Depp cared to model one for me...
Sounds like a fantastic time! i had to read about it on CNN to satisfy my inner 'geek' as they called it.
Jarmara--I am deeply jealous. Have a great time!
Danielle--I really didn't get it either until this weekend. You should have come to DragonCon. :)
Jamie--It made CNN? Wow!
Mmmmmm. Kilts.
Can we start a guys in kilts fan club?
Sure, although I move that we restrict membership to guys in kilts. Which would actually defeat the whole purpose of having a fan club.
