Book stats

I keep hitting "new post" and then staring at the blank page. Since I have nothing better to write about, I'll do a meme!

I've seen this one on a few book review blogs lately. Some reviewers are breaking down how many books they've read from which publishers, and which books are debuts, but I'm too lazy to figure out all that information. But here are some statistics of the 28 books I've read since the beginning of the year.

Out of 28 books, I've read 14 by female authors and 14 by male. I totally didn't intend it to split so neatly, but I'm pretty pleased it did. (I counted by book, not by author, so Kelly McCullough got counted three times in the male column, for instance, because I read three of his books this year.)

Out of those 28 books, 3 are nonfiction, 21 are fantasy, 2 mystery, 1 romance, and 1 a middle-grade novel about a sheep that doesn't actually fit in any particular category.

Authors new to me: 9 out of 28. Not bad.

Small press publishers: 5 out of 28. Also not bad. My goal is 10 out of 50 for the year.

Those are some nice stats. Hmmm, must check my book tally for the year.

A middle grade novel about a sheep? Ok...

28 books is respectable. I've read four since the beginning of the year and they were all YA fiction.

Now I'm starting to tread on your territory: I've lined up some fantasy books on my summer TBR pile.

And I'm reading lots of blogs on what the elements of good fantasy are - you should do a post on that.

I've read 11 whole books this year. That's about the same number that I've bought in June alone. They pile up faster than I can get to them. Oh, well...when I'm the last man on Earth, I'll have time to read...unless my eyeglasses break. Wait, I don't wear glasses. Sweet.

Danielle--I think I'll hit 50 books this year no problem. It'll be interesting to see if I keep up the 50/50 split on author gender.

Anne--Hmm, that might be an interesting blog post, assuming my brain cooperates long enough for me to be coherent. Thanks for the idea!

Jameson--I buy books faster than I can possibly read them too. I've put a hold on my book-buying this month in an attempt to get the pile down a little.

Interesting. I, too, am curious about the MG sheep book.

I need to read more. I suppose with my back all wonky, it's a good time! ; )

Jamie--The sheep book is just Agnes the Sheep by William Taylor. It was okay. If you want to read a book where sheep take the central role, I recommend Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann, whose name I am probably mangling. The sheep solve a murder!

Natalie--You won't get a better excuse than a bad back to read. At least that's one good thing about it, right?
