In for a penny, in for $155

Well, I've done it. I've bought my pass to the 2012 WorldCon, which is going to be held in Chicago that year. It takes place over the Labor Day weekend, but by god, if I can't get one damn Saturday off two years in advance, I don't need my stupid job.

Anyway, I'm going to Worldcon in two years, see if I don't.

And as soon as they open up reservations for the hotel where the con is held--the Hyatt, I think--I'm going to get my reservations in. And then I'm going to book a flight to Chicago that weekend. Yes, I'm going in style, honey. I hope to see some of y'all there!

I'm too much of a chicken sh*t to go to conventions...I guess I should start sometime, eh?

They're not at all the way you think. The fun of DragonCon for me was the panels. It was fantastic to attend panels where everyone in the room was talking and thinking about books--like the best college English class you ever took, only there's no pressure and everyone in the room is a little geeky and shy. Oh, and you might run into one of your favorite authors either on the panel or just in the audience.

I would love to be going but don't even know if I can manage to plan a trip to the US in 2 years time.

I feel really weird planning something so far away, like maybe I'm tempting fate and something awful will happen before then. I believe the end of the world is scheduled for December of that year, though, not September.
